Social Justice
“In these challenging days, we believe that the Catholic
community needs to be more than ever a source of clear moral
vision and
effective action. We are called to be the “salt of the
earth” and “light
of the world” in the words of the Scriptures
(cf. Mt 5:13-16).
This task belongs to every believer and every
parish. It cannot be assigned
to a few or simply delegated to
diocesan or national structures. The pursuit
of justice and peace
is an essential part of what makes a parish Catholic.”

Social Mission of the Parish.
Respect Life
Committee
"Human
rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being's
entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and
must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even
a parent or a sovereign." (Mother
Theresa -- "Notable and Quotable," Wall Street Journal, 2/25/94, p. A14)
Our Respect Life Committee functions under
the
larger umbrella of Social Justice through Social
Ministry.
At All Saints' Parish, the Respect Life
Committee
promotes the teachings of the Church - that as
Catholics we believe that all life is precious and sacred from the moment of
conception until natural death. It is our work to protect and
enhance the lives
of those most vulnerable at both the
beginning and end of life.
We
recently joined with St. Patrick's - Sonora, and with a group of approx. 60
youth and adults participated in the WALK FOR LIFE - WEST COAST on
January 23, 2010 in San Francisco. We joined 35,000+ people who standing
and walking in the rain made a
stand for life. It was a wonderful opportunity for us all to witness our
faith.

Some of the activities the committee has been
involved in and supported
include developing and
distributing
parish educational materials on issues regarding the support of Proposition 8
and
the 2008 election, making parish
presentations and the FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act)
postcard campaign and 40 Days for Life..
We work with other churches in our community to form a larger
presence of people in support of life. We are planning a public event in
October to further this charter. More information on this will be forthcoming.
The Respect Life Committee meets every 1st Wednesday of the month at
7:00 pm.

Faithful Citizenship
“In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and
participation
in political life is a moral obligation. This obligation is rooted
in our baptismal
commitment to follow Jesus Christ and to bear Christian witness
in all we do.”
